Download Netflix On Mac Air

To download movies and TV shows from Netflix, you'll need to install Windows 10 on an Intel-based MacBook and use the Windows version of the Netflix app. For Apple M1 MacBooks, there is no legal way to do this right now.

So, in short, Netflix spent a lot of time, effort, and money to block macOS users from legally downloading and accessing offline content from Netflix. It left users with morally ambiguous solutions or a Windows virtual machine if you have an Intel-based MacBook.

Unfortunately, there are no Netflix-approved methods to download movies and TV shows from Netflix with an M1 MacBook. There are, however, some morally ambiguous ways. Some folks have found success using online video downloaders, while others have made do with screen recording their iPhone or iPad using their MacBooks. Others still have turned to piracy.

Parallels is the easiest way of doing this on Apple Silicon (M1 or later) and Intel-based Mac systems. The app sets just about everything up for you, including downloading, installing, and creating user accounts within Windows. You can also do this manually using UTM (also great for installing Linux) on Apple Silicon.

Now that Netflix allows some shows to be downloaded to mobile devices to watch offline, why is this not an option for the MacBook Air? I'm going on a 14-hour road trip in a week and was hoping to have some Netflix shows downloaded and ready for viewing on my laptop, but when I attempted to download them last night, that wasn't an option.

Their help page details how to use a browser to stream movies; that, to me, means they simply do not allow or have compatible ways to download to a Mac for later viewing. I would ask them - it is their product. A lot of places have iOS apps to work with iPhones, etc, but a Mac is not an iDevice or a Windows machine.

Some Apple TV channels might have limits for how many titles can be downloaded simultaneously and the number of devices you can download content on. If you reach the limit, the Apple TV app alerts you. If you want to download more titles, delete TV episodes or movies that you already downloaded from one of your (or your family's) devices.

You can watch Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Disney+ content on your Mac, to do so you just need to log on to the website of each service. But downloading is forbidden (and if you see a service that seems to suggest it will allow you to do this then it may well be malware!)

UPDATE: On 15 November 2021 Amazon Prime Video launched a native macOS app on the Mac App Store that will allow Prime subscribers to stream and download Prime Video content on their Macs for offline viewing. The app is free and requires macOS Big Sur (11.4) and later. Get Amazon Prime Video for macOS here.

In theory the change should make it possible to stream downloaded Netflix or Disney+ shows from your iPhone or iPad to your Mac. However, when we tried to stream from Netflix to our Mac we saw this warning:

You can use your Mac to access Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, NBC in UK and Disney+ content by visiting the websites of each service. To do so, all you have to do is go to the website of each service. However, downloading is not permitted (and if you see a service that appears to promise this, it may be malware!)

How do I get Netflix on my MacBook Air? This means that you can stream Netflix movies and shows from your iOS devices to any AirPlay-enabled devices over local Wi-Fi. You also need an app like AirServer so you can receive AirPlay streams on your Mac.

The upcoming ad-supported Netflix tier that's in the works will not allow subscribers to download TV shows or movies to watch offline, reports Bloomberg. The restriction was found in code in the Netflix app for iOS devices, which reads "Downloads available on all plans except Netflix with ads."

Standard Netflix plans allow some Netflix content to be downloaded for offline viewing, and restricting that feature to the more expensive Netflix tiers will allow Netflix to differentiate between existing plans and the new ad-supported plan.
